GNSS Jamming & Spoofing Countermeasure Information Display Function Added to SSV
- Supporting Safe and Secure Vessel Operations Through "Visualization" of Satellite Positioning Interference -
ProductsJapan Radio Co., Ltd. has implemented and begun offering a new function in its vessel operation support solution "SSV (Smart Ship Viewer)" that displays GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) spoofing (impersonation) and jamming (interference) detection information.
Overview
This function utilizes the spoofing/jamming countermeasure capability of the onboard GNSS device "JLR-41" to receive and display the spoofing/jamming detection results on the SSV side. This enables shore-side management to see at a glance on the SSV screen whether the vessel is being affected by spoofing/jamming.
Background: "Unexplained Position Loss" on Management Systems
Customers have been struggling to isolate the cause when vessel position information becomes unknown due to external GNSS jamming, and have requested countermeasures. In particular, when the position of managed vessels navigating hazardous or narrow waters is not updated for a certain period, operators cannot confirm navigation status or passage through danger zones, creating a significant crisis management challenge.
By displaying spoofing/jamming information on SSV, operators and managers can understand "why the position has been lost" and take appropriate alerts and countermeasures.
New Function Overview
Status Display on Ship List
When spoofing or jamming is detected on a vessel equipped with JLR-41, a badge is displayed on the corresponding ship in SSV's Ship List, enabling immediate identification of anomalies. This allows fleet managers overseeing many vessels to quickly identify affected ships.

GNSS Interference Information Tab Added to Conning Display
A display for GNSS spoofing/jamming information has been added to the Conning display of JLR-41 equipped vessels. The screen allows visual confirmation of statuses such as Jamming L1, Jamming GLONASS, Jamming BDS, and Spoofing Detection, enabling operators to understand which satellite systems are affecting the vessel during navigation.

Highlighted Display of Spoofing/Jamming Occurrence Segments on Track
Tracks where spoofing/jamming occurred are highlighted on SSV. Relevant segments can be displayed going back up to 60 days, making it useful for post-incident verification, trend analysis of hazardous waters, and information sharing among stakeholders.
We will continue to develop solutions combining satellite positioning technology and communication technology to advance vessel operation management and improve safety.
*Strengths & Features of JLR-41's Spoofing/Jamming Capabilities
JLR-41 has practical-level resilience in addition to spoofing/jamming detection capability.
Normally, when spoofing/jamming occurs, positioning becomes impossible or position jumps occur.
However, JLR-41 can maintain correct position information as much as possible while recording the fact that spoofing/jamming has occurred.
