Development of S-band Solid State Radar for Ship

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

The solid state radar introduced in this report mainly has advantages of "long life","maintenance cost reduction",and "target detection performance enhancement in a clatter" compared with the magnetron radar. The solid state radar which JRC has developed this time consists of two units which connected MFD (Multi Function Display) as a display unit to the antenna. And the mass has satisfied the weight saving reduced about 50% compared with a conventional model (12-ft model) by the antenna reduced it in size and weight and by the high integration of each circuit, etc. Since LD-MOS FET is adopted as a transceiver circuit, it has ten years or more of life. Moreover, the wide dynamic range of the system has improved in detection performance as compared with the conventional equipment with respect to the performance.

Development of new RMS (Remote Maintenance System)

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

The new RMS (Remote Maintenance System) has a feature of uploading maintenance information of equipment adopting RMS function to the land station by using Inmarsat GX or VSAT satellite communication. In addition, the RMS has a lot of valuable features such as standardization of self-diagnosis and maintenance information output function, IP packet communication, wiring cable reduction by using LAN, etc. By improving fundamental RMS function ("Monitoring","update" and "control") greatly, new RMS enhanced the contribution to navigation plan maintenance and safety voyage.

Development of New Model Multi Function Display

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

The new Multi Function Display (hereafter called MFD) which this report introduced realized the integration of the main navigation support function of RADAR, ECDIS, conning display and AMS by the commonization of hardware and software. Moreover, based on JRC’s original RADAR signal processing technology and a core software technology of electronic chart display, the RADAR image display and the electronic chart display were enabled. This equipment has many features, such as "high flexibility of the installation by large miniaturization", "the improvement of each function of RADAR, ECDIS, conning display and AMS", and "the improvement in user interface function".

LTE Base Station (Evolved Node B)

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

JRC has developed small, low power consumption, and outdoor installable LTE eNodeB (Evolved Node B) ,which provides fast and simple LTE system building and operation and also contributes minimized CAPEX and OPEX for small and midlle class (Tier 2 and 3) operators. The eNodeB complies 3GPP LTE release 9, and supports 5MHz, 10MHz, 15MHz, and 20MHz bandwidth and both TDD and FDD duplex mode. The eNodeB enables operators to deploy LTE system flexibly by customizing RF circuit only for customer's requirement such as LTE band class.

LTE Core Network System

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

JRC has developed LTE Core Network System which consist of 2 major devices of both EPC (Evolved Packet Core) device and LTE Network Management System called EMS (Element Management System) ,in order to realize Compact LTE system for small and middle class communication operators. EPC supports standards features and interfaces comply with 3GPP LTE Release 9 in one box, and is installable on universal OS (operating system) and general hardware platform such as ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) server. Also, JRC EPC offers easy to operate GUI to enable easy configuration, for fast operation. Therefore JRC’ s EPC enables to fast entry of new LTE networks with minimum CAPEX/OPEX. EMS enables total management of installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance for LTE network devices such as eNodeB (Evolved Node B) ,EPC, and other network elements.

Research and Development of Knowledge-Based Interference Rejection Radars

- Special Issues : On Marine Electronics Business-

Radar interference will be a critical problem against marine radars in the future when solid-state radars have replaced conventional magnetron radars. Particularly, in an important marine trade route, interferences from hundreds of solid-state radars will overlap so heavily that the conventional interference rejection processing performs inadequately. For countermeasures against such tough interference circumstances, JRC has researched and developed a novel radar manipulating the interference rejection algorithm optimized for the circumstances, as well as suppressing interference with an electronic scanning antenna. The optimized algorithm is the combination of plural interference rejection functions selected in accordance with the database of variation of interference examples. With the novel techniques built in, JRC has developed a knowledge-based interference rejection radar; consequently, through pseudo-interference evaluations
