Japan's first "GPS receiver for ships" is developed.
Back in the early 1980s, the GPS system was developed in the U.S.A. as a novel positioning system configured to process positioning information from eighteen low earth orbit satellites. We commenced the development of positioning receivers earlier than others and completed a successful prototype in June 1982. Since then we have steadily improved our GPS receivers and applied them to a growing number of everyday practical uses. In the last few years we have manufactured a super-small practical GPS device showing promising results in evaluation testing.
