Development of the Landslide Detection System based on Wireless Sensor Networks

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

In recent years, by typhoons or localized torrential rains, landslide disasters accompanied by great human damage have occurred, therefore an innovation in the countermeasures against disasters is urgently needed. It has been difficult to grasp the danger of landslides with a high degree of accuracy because it used to be estimated by rainfall amount which is calculated using indirect and statistical data. For this reason, new monitoring system with improved accuracy is required to monitor changes in conditions of landslide risk areas directly. Here, JRC has commercially developed and produced "the Landslide Disaster Monitoring System based on Wireless Sensor Networks" which can be easily installed and realize a high-efficient landslide monitoring. Our new system can minimize the time required for the construction and the maintenance to secure the safety of workers.

Design of Dam Gate Remote Control System

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

In recent years, the introduction of the remote monitoring control function is considered to much dam management control systems. However, if it is incorporated in the running system, it cannot be introduced easily since it is accompanied by the modification of gate operation processing function which is the main function. Therefore, JRC has realized the remote monitoring and control system by limiting the modification range to a part of functions, when a remote monitoring and control function is incorporated in the present system. Since our system does not require modification of the gate operation processing function, it can be installed without affecting the running system.

Construction of Road Patrol Support System

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

Usually road patrol is carried out by road administrator on a daily basis. The purpose of road patrol is to collect information to check its condition and status of use, in order to maintain a road at an always good state and to provide a road user with safety and relief by taking appropriate measures. JRC has constructed the "Road Patrol Support System" which supports such road patrol work, and delivered it to the Chubu Regional Developmental Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourlism. This system makes road patrol work more advanced and efficient, and supports quick collection of local information, and information sharing between road administrators in real time. It also helps grasping accumulated information statistically, and we expect our system can be utilized effectively for preventive maintenance.

Development of New FM Relay Broadcast Equipments

Since 15years have passed since FM relay broadcast equipments were developed and introduced, and a FM broadcast is now gathering attention in the light of disaster prevention, JRC has developed new FM relay broadcast equipment. Interface of our new product is compatible with that of current equipment, and we could reduce the manufacturing workload by about 80% by digitization. Its reliability in terms of durability and maintainability was also improved. Moreover, about Power Amplifier, its electricity efficiency has been improved by about 3% and it has lost 14kg.

Development of New Radio RE-Broadcasting System in Tunnel

JRC has delivered the Radio Re-Broadcasting System for Tunnels so far that allows us to listen to the radio in tunnels and provide some information to the drivers in an emergency using some existing channels as the emergency channels. Recently, transportation infrastructure has been improved and long straight motorways have been designed, as a result, long tunnels have been prepared. Then, JRC has developed the new system that responds to multichannel and conserves space with the aim of good system to meet the need and to have high affinity with the drivers.

Development of Radio Dispatch System

In recent years, digital-type radio systems are prepared to respond to advances in digital radio technology and a revision of radio low. With the changes of it, it has been reported there are a lot of radio system rebuilding cases. JRC is trying to develop several radio systems to correspond to the needs from market. This time, for use in the broadcast media JRC has developed a new radio system for business communication which meets to ARIB STD-B54 specifications. In this report, we will introduce its functionalities and report the superiority of the system by comparing distributed control system with multicast technology with traditional central control system. JRC is certain that our system is superior in terms of not only cost but also scalability, fault tolerance and availability.

Development of X Band Compact Weather Radar

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

In recent years, the natural disasters are occurring frequently by the followings; the local severe rain accompanying sudden change of a weather situation, the strong rain for a short time, hail, tornado and the gust by the cumulonimbus cloud which progresses quickly. When conducting the surveillance and analysis of these phenomena, the importance of X band weather radar with high resolution in space and time is increasing rapidly. However, in the conventional X band weather radar, it has a barrier of introduction of equipment that expenses, such as carrying-in facility, and maintenance, are large, the expenses in ancillary facility are the barrier to introduce the equipment. Then, JRC has developed the X band compact weather radar with the weight reduction of more than 80%, the performance of the detection distance equivalent to the conventional, power saving of more than 75%, low price, easy installation and maintenance by the improvement of an antenna, a transceiver unit, a signal processing unit, and maintainability, etc. The introduction of this equipment allows measures to weather survey and the natural disasters by the prediction, and the analysis of these natural phenomena is enabled.

Development of Radar Remote Sensing Training System

In recent years, radar technology is required not only to detect ship and weather, but to detect many kinds of position of target and movement. JRC has developed land equipped radar system to substantiate how it meets the need for training. This system is based on marine radar equipment, so it's low cost and easy to equip. More ever, It will be able to collect the radar data and controlling system using the internet without expensive leased line. This system is used to be proficient in the radar remote sensing engineering, basic knowledge of ports and air traffic control as teaching tools.

Development of a 6 Axis Motion Base

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

A 6-axis motion base is a equipment which controls the posture of its motion stand in real time with six degrees of freedom by continuous expansion and contraction of six electric cylinders. It is mainly used for a simulator, test equipment and product development. JRC has developed a new product which utilizes the global standard EtherCAT, an industrial high-speed network which is based on the Ethernet, unlike our conventional product that had adopted serial communication for exclusive use and contact control. Adoption of this EtherCAT interface realized the miniaturization of the housing by the wiring-saving and cost reduction. Moreover, it is also possible to add or extend the slave option equipment of EtherCAT easily for many proposes.

Development of ECDIS Training Equipment in connection with Advanced Navigation System

- Special Issues : On Solution Technology-

JRC has developed the ECDIS Training Equipment, the education tools to learn the knowledge, functions and operation method of ECDIS for the safety of ship operation for Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. The equipment is intended to train the personnel related maritime business and industry and provides practical education with navigational information. Our equipment can utilize information on ship operation as in Tokyo Bay by working with another system of ours, "the Advanced Navigation System" which supports research activities on ship management.
