Quality Assurance Activities for Motorcycle ETC with Built-in Antenna

- Special Issues 1 : Quality Assurance -

This paper describes JRC's quality assurance activities for motorcycle ETC with built-in antenna (the JRM-12 Series) . Public use of ETC for automobiles began in March, 2001. As the use of ETC for automobiles had become widespread, the demand for ETC for motorcycles increased. To meet this demand, JRC released Japan's first ETC for motorcycles, the JRM-11 series, in October, 2006. The JRM-11 consists of three separate components: the main unit, antenna, and indicator. ETC for automobiles are installed inside the vehicle where they are protected from the influences of wind, rain, and vibration. However, ETC for motorcycles are installed on the outside, where they are to be exposed directly to wind, rain, and vibration, so protective measures are crucial. JRC has released the new JRM-12 series in November, 2008. The JRM-12 is an all-in-one device with built-in antenna and indicator.

Quality Assurance Activities of Marine Equipments

- Special Issues 1 : Quality Assurance -

This paper gives an overview of the JRC marine product quality assurance activities that the Quality Assurance Department /Marine Electronics is in charge of, and introduces its activities to improve the quality of new products that have been released during 2008. Marine electronic equipments are grouped into radio communications, navigation assistance, and fishing assistance equipments. To ensure safe navigation and prevent injuries, all of these types of equipment need to have the high quality and reliability which can withstand harsh environments.

Integrated Manufacturing System of JRC Communication Equipment

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

To produce communication equipment that is durable, reliable, and safe in harsh environments, JRC engages in integrated manufacturing centered around its Mitaka plant. This paper uses one of JRC's representative products, the JMA-9100 high-seas radar, as an example to explain how the manufacturing processes at the PCB, FA, Machining, and Equipment factories all within the Mitaka plant are designed to ensure quality.

Production of Microwave Radio Equipment and Antenna for Mobile Backhaul Network

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

While the traffic between Cellular Base Transceiver Station and Telephone Exchange has been through the optical fibre as the standard transmission method, for the place where to deploy the optical fibre is difficult such as the river side, the road crossing, the environmental protection region and the island, Microwave Transmission is being used as the alternative but the ultimate solution.

JRC have developed the State-of-Art High Speed Transmitting Radio at 11/15/18/22GHz for the backhaul and these equipment are provided to Mobile Phone Operator and these have been the part of the infrastructure successfully.

This document is to describe the manufacturing technology and production engineering of the equipment.

Center Frequency Trimming Technology for the Manufacturing of Narrow-Band Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Filters

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

JRC develops, designs, produces, and sells SAW filters for use as key devices in radio communication equipment. Almost all SAW filters are custom-made, and we realize products meeting this variety of customer needs quickly by having the manufacturing department participate in the development and design stage and works on the manufacturing process as the product is being designed. In the typical manufacturing process of commercial narrow-band SAW filters there is large manufacturing variation leading to decreased yields, but now, new center frequency trimming technology of filter elements during manufacturing has made it possible to increase yields and achieve steady production. This paper will provide an outline of this frequency trimming technology.

Printed Circuit Board Analysis Technology that Utilizes Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

JRC produces approximately 10,000 square meters of Printed Circuit Board a year, mostly for use in JRC products. To improve the quality of this production, JRC uses a number of analysis devices and tools. However, recent miniaturization of Printed Circuit Boards has made adequate analysis difficult, and the use of scanning electron microscope (SEM) , which have high magnification and high focal depth, has become necessary.

This paper explains how SEM are utilized in Printed Circuit Board analysis.

Technology for Manufacturing Printed Circuit Board with Embedded Copper Heat Sink Chips

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

In recent years, the increasing functionality and density of semiconductor devices has led to a steady increase in the amount of heat that the devices generate. Because of this, technology that efficiently dissipates the heat generated by each individual part is becoming indispensable.

Conventionally, devices are attached directly to heat sinks, which dissipate excess heat. However, creating a heat dissipation structure inside of the Printed Circuit Board increases heat dissipation, reduces manufacturing costs, and stabilizes performance. This paper explains the methods and technology used to create this internal heat dissipation structure.

Construction of Visualization Systems for ITS Equipment Production

- Special Issues 2 : Manufacturing -

JRC entered into the car electronics market in 1990, and has constructed a number of systems by focusing on the customer's needs while improving QCD (Quality, Cost, and Delivery) . To develop factories that increase customer satisfaction, JRC has (1) removed obstacles to production so that the stringent just-in-time demands of customers can be satisfied, (2) promoted factory improvement activities by cooperation among factory workers, and (3) strived to share necessary information and to quickly discover and prevent impediments.

This document introduces some of the unique visualization systems that JRC has developed in its factories.
