Due to delays in determining the standard procedure for procurement rate calculation at that time, we were unable to calculate the procurement rate for 2003 and this work was carried over to the following year. We are committed to the wide application of the guidelines and promotion of green procurement activities. Revision of the green procurement guidelines We have prepared "Guidelines to Green Procurement" as attached, aiming at preferential purchase of materials with less impact on the environment in order to conserve the global environment and build a recycling society. The Guidelines were revised following a review of the former "Guidelines to Green Purchase" issued in September 1998 to reflect changes in society. The term "purchase" was also replaced with "procurement". Major modifications are as follows Identification of 217 substances with high environmental impact Clear description of items required for proper management of substances with high environmental impact Clear description of items required to facilitate environmental conservation initiatives Request for cooperation in the collection of information on lead-free issues and investigation into harmful substances Construction of a database on harmful substances contained in parts is an ongoing activity to help facilitate the design of environment conscious products. We will make further efforts to implement these measures throughout the organization. Purpose of construction of a database on the company’s technical standard parts and mechanical parts We will construct a database of environmentally significant substances (harmful substances and reusable wastes) contained in the company’s technical standard parts and mechanical parts, which are frequently used. The database will be used for the following purposes As original data for calculation of material composition of equipment and devices For selection of parts with little or no harmful substances at the time of machine design Goals of environment conscious product design and green procurement in 2004 Concerning all newly designed products: For procurement of products designated as special procurement products, to improve the rate of procurement (price, weight or number of parts) of products which meet "Guidelines to Green Procurement" issued by the company by 20 points or more over existing products.
