Development of Full Duplex Radio System

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

Because of growing demand in recent years of mobile communications, it is aimed to achieve more than multi-Gbps transmission speed in 5th Generation (5G) mobile networks. It is indispensable to develop more high-speed wireless backhaul systems to connect flexibly between mobile base station and core network. Therefore, JRC proposes a full duplex radio system in same polarization, Directional Division Duplex (DDD). To investigate the feasibility, we have developed and fabricated the radio equipment for 40 GHz-band fixed wireless system which employs DDD, and performed a field experiment of the DDD radio system. The DDD is a radio duplex system that transmits and receives at the same time by using the same radio frequency channel and same polarization, and DDD radio system can ideally achieve twice frequency utilization efficiency as that of the traditional duplex system of Time Division Duplex (TDD) or Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) .

Development of 3D Rapid Scanning Phased Array Weather Radar

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

In recent years, urban areas in Japan suffer from more and more disasters by severe weather such as heavy rain fall or tornadoes. For analyzing and predicting the severe weather, weather radars are expected to observe rapidly developing cumulonimbus by scanning whole three-dimensional space with high spatial resolution; however, conventional weather radars with a parabolic antenna need five to ten minutes for three-dimensional scanning. JRC have developed a prototype of new weather radar equipped with an active phased array antenna using digital beam forming technique. With this phased array weather radar, it takes only 30 seconds to finish a volume scan of the cylindrical space within a radius of 80 km and height of 15 km. We have started experimental operation in Chiba city about 45 km east away from the center of Tokyo, where we had installed the radar in the summer of 2015. In the experiments, we have succeeded in observing severe storm cases, where inside of developing stage of cumulonimbus were clearly revealed.

Examination of Target Classification for Millimeter-Wave Radar

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

For prevention of traffic accidents, image processing technique has been widely studied to recognize pedestrians from the image taken by a camera; however, the accuracy of recognition is degraded by bad weather condition. In contrast, millimeter radar is tolerant to weather condition though with lower angular resolution; JRC has made test software to recognize the target in the radar signal. Based on machine learning, the recognition software classifies each target moving in open space into three types of targets: pedestrian, bicycle, and car. The recognition succeeded in classifying targets with the accuracy of approximately 90%. Through the experiments, JRC confirmed that the effective information for target classification is included in radar data.

Development of Wireless Power Transmission

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

In the JRC group, NJRC has worked on development of Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) using a magnetic resonant coupling method at an early stage and released a principle proof machine with an automatic matching function of the 30W ahead of other companies in 2009. We get more than 95 % of electric power transmitting efficiency by distance 40cm between the coupler by the automatic matching circuit. The technology development of WPT advanced afterwards in the direction where electric power increased to 1kW and 3kW. On the other hand, we developed the sample model that it is easy to treat in small size. Furthermore, by an analysis evaluation by the three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation, we inspected the conformity to an electromagnetic wave protective guideline and an effect of the shield structure as reduction measure of the magnetic field strength to any place other than the electricity transmission direction.

Development of Wideband Variable band-pass filter technique

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

Wideband Variable band-pass filter technique for the RFband is one of the key to the development of Multiband Transceiver. In this Work, At first, we designed and evaluated the Wideband variable band-pass filter of the double-tuned type that is available for the HFband (1.8MHz~30.5MHz) .Only the adjustment of Capacitance of the double-tuned circuit, we achieved wideband impedance matching (5 times variable width) with fractional bandwidth Constant. Then, we report the Operational Overview and Evaluation results.

Development of 60GHz-CMOS Transceiver device for Near field Gigabit radio communication

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

Recently, with the rapid spread of portable wireless communication terminals represented by smart-phones, there is an increasing demand for large-capacity wireless infrastructure equipment. Millimeter-wave is suited for ultra-high-speed transmission from the broadband performance. JRC has developed Millimeter wave RF-CMOS device that can be mounted on the portable communication terminal. RF-CMOS device was fabricated using 65nm-CMOS process technology, and it has a function of transmitter and receiver. When this RF-CMOS device is in operation, corresponding to a change by the device characteristic variations and temperature variations, always it has a function to calibrate to a certain behavior. As a result, JRC has developed Millimeter-wave wireless RF-CMOS of a conventional about 20 times the transmission performance. This device's data transmission rates can reach 7.04Gbps (16QAM) .

Numerical analysis for SH-SAW biosensor

- Special Issues : On Research and Development -

This paper describes a shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) immunoassay biosensor on a quartz substrate. The SH-SAW biosensor is a 250MHz SH-SAW delay-line which has a gold surface covered with antibodies. It is important to discuss the detection mechanism of SH-SAW biosensors on quartz. In this paper, the detection mechanism of SH-SAW biosensors are investigated, using three numerical analyses. The first analysis is based on a mass loading model. The second analysis is based on a viscosity model. The third analysis is based on a viscoelasticity model. The numerical calculation method for quartz-based SH-SAW propagation characteristics, which is a modified Campbell and Jones method involving the effect of liquid viscosity is described. In order to confirm the proposed numerical analysis models, 250MHz SH-SAW biosensors on quartz substrates were tested. The mass, viscosity, and viscoelastic behavior of fluids on SH-SAW biosensors were theoretically and experimentally discussed.

Integrated management system of the high level hygiene control in the Marine Products Local Wholesale Market in Ishinomaki City

- Technical papers -

While the demand to the safety and relief of food increases, the advancement of quality and hygiene control, the increase in efficiency of distribution, and traceability are desired for also about the fishery product. The Marine Products Local Wholesale Market in Ishinomaki City (Ishinomaki fish market) suffered serious damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake. However, they introduced the building and facilities which can do high level hygiene control while performing the reconstruction, and they completed as a modernistic fish market. JRC delivered the facilities which are an integrated management system of the high level hygiene control and some of the equipment associated with this, a check sheet equipment, a trace system, a video recording and gate management, etc. as ICT facilities for performing high level hygiene control efficiently in this fish market, and has been able to attain computerization of the hygiene controls in a fish market facility.

Integrated management of the energy in the Marine Products Local Wholesale Market in Ishinomaki City

- Technical papers -

The Marine Products Local Wholesale Market in Ishinomaki City which suffered damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake introduced the advanced hygiene management system, and was rebuilt as a modernistic fish market. Since the rebuilt fish market was a closed type, increase of the power consumption of a lighting facility and the air conditioner was anticipated. Therefore, the energy information integrated management made in JRC has been introduced in conjunction with renewable energy, and have planned large reduction of the system power consumption. As a result, the system power consumption in half a year after the start of operation realized 26% reduction (average value of half a year).
