Meteorological Doppler Radar is the radar which has been installed throughout Japan by the Japan Meteorological Agency to detect intense and localized heavy rainfall in all regions. In order to detect the wind direction and speed in an area of rainfall, this radar has functions with higher quality and precision than previous equipment. The antenna installed is parabolic, 4m in diameter, and its revolution speed can be chosen according to observation mode. The transmitter is the C-band klystron type with latest high voltage modulator, and can output radio waves with highly stable frequencies. Out of the 16 Meteorological Doppler Radars in Japan, JRC has supplied 13, and these are contributing to Japan’s disaster prevention operations. (as of March 2010)
