The progress of our company's environmental activities

After a philosophy of sustainable development was agreed upon at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, in 1993 we created a new department for promoting conservation of the environment.

In the beginning, we built our environmental systems based on the British environmental standard BS-7750, which was the basic standard of ISO 14001, and introduced an environmental system in 1996 when the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System was issued. The system was examined by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization and the Mitaka and Saitama plants were accredited in February 1998.

For transition to ISO 14001 2004, our business operations including headquarters, branch offices and business offices in Japan were also accredited in 2005.

The accreditation scope was extended to cover all plants in Japan with the additional certification of Saitama, Kanagawa, Nagano, Gifu, Mie, Tokushima, Ehime, Tottori and Saga business offices in 2011.

Environmental management system organization

Our company's environmental activities are promoted by top management, led by the highest executive officers, so that changes in social trends can be responded to immediately.

External audit

Our company underwent reassessment for ISO14001 in December 2012, which consequently confirmed that the environmental management system is properly maintained and managed.

Points of improvement and strong points highlighted during the reassessment are announced in the company intending to boost overall levels.

Continuous improvement activities

PDCA cycles consist of repeatedly implementing "Plan: planning", "Do: operation and implementation", "Check: inspection and audit" and "Action: review by top management" for continuous improvement.
