Design of environment conscious products in 2003

In 2003, design reviews were carried out as specified by the company on 91% of newly designed products and adequate measures in response to environmental conservation issues were taken with respect to these products.

Four products are described below as an illustration


Product name: GPS receiver
Model name: CCA-482

Description of product:
Core module of GPS receiver

Features of environment conscious design:
  • Reduction of harmful substances (responding toRoHS requirement to be lead free)
  • Power-saving design (improvement of energy efficiency)
  • Compact/light-weight design (resource saving)
  • Ease of recycling, maintenance and disassembly

Product name: GPS RF module
Model name: RF module: CMA-914/915

Description of product:
Receives GPS signals and converts to IF signals (GPS signal processing is carried out on Navi-SOC)

Features of environment conscious design:
  • Reduction of harmful materials (responding to RoHS requirement to be lead free)
  • Power-saving design (improvement of energy efficiency)
  • Compact/light-weight design (resource saving)
  • Ease of recycling, maintenance and disassembly


Product name: AIS (Automatic Identification System)
Model name: JHS-182

Description of product:
  • Mounting is requested by the SOLAS treaty
  • Information on ship (name, location, course, speed, etc.) is broadcast on the VHF waveband
  • Receives and displays information on other ships in surrounding area
  • Received signals are output to external displays, such as radar

Features of environment conscious design:
  • Power-saving design: Power consumption is reduced to about 85% of that of an earlier model (JHS-180) and this feature contributes to power saving
  • Compact/light-weight design: Volume and weight are reduced to about 70% and 50%, respectively of an earlier model (JHS-180) and these features contribute to resource saving

Product name: VDR (Voyage Data Recorder)
Model name: JCY-1700

Description of product:
  • Mounting is requested by the SOLAS treaty
  • Black box for ships
  • Records navigation and ship status information in a capsule

Features of environment conscious design:
  • Power-saving design: Power consumption is reduced to about 30% of that of an earlier model (JCY-1000) and this feature contributes to power saving
  • Compact/light-weight design: Both volume and weight are reduced to about 20% of an earlier model (JCY-1000) and these features contribute to resource saving
